Steam Path Audits

Encotech is a world leader in conducting Steam Path Audits. Our Steam Path Auditors have an established history of providing owners of steam turbines with timely, thorough and accurate performance and economic evaluations of their turbine's performance. Power generators may either have Encotech Auditors conduct an audit for them, or license our Steam Path Audit software, eSTPE (Steam Turbine Performance Evaluation).

Steam Path Audit : Power Point Presentation

For those unfamiliar with Steam Path Audits, let us explain. A Steam Path Audit is an inspection of the steam turbine, during an overhaul, designed to identify and quantify potential and existing performance problems. Both maintenance engineers and performance engineers use the Steam Path Audit results to focus overhaul maintenance dollars on the most cost-effective repairs.

A Steam Path Audit assigns power, heat rate and fuel cost penalties to each type of deterioration on a stage-by-stage basis. Solid particle erosion, seal leakages, mechanical damage, deposits, trailing edge thickness and other losses are itemized. Steam turbine owners may then assign costs and benefits to individual maintenance actions. The end result is effective repair decisions and optimal use of maintenance dollars.

Encotech engineers can also provide owners with reports, generated by eSTPE, illustrating the stage-by-stage condition of your turbine, both before and after an overhaul. Furthermore, Encotech can provide a complete, stage-by-stage, photographic illustration of both damage and repairs. These reports provide valuable historical information as well as an accurate record of repair decisions.

Required Documents

The documentation required to create the turbine model for a steam path audit follows:
Valves-wide-open heat balance
Turbine cross-section diagrams for all casings
Steam seal and clearance diagrams
First stage shell pressure curve
